Chicago, IL (November 26, 2007) Local surgeon announces breakthrough procedure for
lateral ankle instability.
"Lateral ankle instability is a condition that has been largely unaddressed by the medical community for years because of lack of effective treatment options and inaccurate diagnosis of the condition. Many people think that years of tripping and falling are due to klutziness rather than a treatable medical condition," states Dr. Robert Lim, creator of The Lim Procedure and board certified foot and ankle surgeon.
An ankle sprain sounds harmless enough; however, the severity of an ankle sprain is not to be underestimated. A staggering 45% of sports related injuries are ankle sprains. In the Chicagoland area alone approximately 46,000 people will suffer from this condition annually. If left untreated, lateral ankle instability may develop into more debilitating conditions such as; osteoarthritis, synovitis, bone spurs, and eventually affect the foot,
knee, hip, and lower back.
"Patients often come in for evaluation of a totally different condition that resulted because of lateral ankle instability and are pleasantly surprised to learn that there is a simple surgical correction available. Over the past 10 years I have performed The Lim Procedure with a 100% success rate," Dr. Lim states.
"The Lim Procedure for lateral ankle instability creates a new functional ligament that does not alter the anatomy of the foot or ankle and returns the patient to pre-injury status within as little as 4 weeks. In comparison, the old techniques require up to a 6 month recovery time, extensive physical therapy, and are often aimed at simply allowing patients to walk painlessly," states Dr. Lim.
"I expect that half of the medical community will embrace The Lim Procedure as revolutionary whereas the rest will respond with a certain amount of skepticism until they witness the success," Dr. Lim states.
